The story of what happens when you meet the love of your life... a lifetime too soon.

Despite not remembering her past life, Maggie has found happiness in the hereafter with her friends and her soulmate, Andrew. Unfortunately, she met him a lifetime too soon. Andrew is reincarnated, and Maggie is shattered. Hoping to snap her out of her depression, Maggie’s friend Eric teaches her an illicit trick: how to push through the veil between life and death. His plan is to help Maggie move on. Instead, his plan backfires in the most epic of ways...

The book breezes quickly through the 1900s, using fashion and music as touch points for each decade. Key moments happen in Chicago, but the timeline slows down when Maggie enters the Living world in Toronto just before the turn of the century.

  • Author note: I went to Humber College at this time in Etobicoke, then lived in a basement apartment in Toronto. Many of these chapters are culled directly from my memories of the city at that time. And now I've dated myself. 🙂

There are a few recurring themes within the novel. I don't want to spoil things, so I chose phlox as the "item" to use in the title. However, it is well known in my family that I suck at titling things. My son usually titles my painting for me. I am not tied to my title in any way. I didn't like any suggestions I had been given about reincarnation, because ultimately it's not really a reincarnation book. It's not a heaven and hell book, so there goes that. It's also not a fantasy book, so I didn't want anything overly magical sounding. Titles are hard, people!
